How We Classify & Rank Financial Research

Every newsletter and research desk on newsletters.markets is described by five structured attributes — type, asset class, niche, price and birth date — and scored on an objective 0–100 Research Authority Score. The system filters out generic commentary and promotional noise in favour of primary-source rigour, differentiated niche depth and a verifiable publication record.

The Five Structured Attributes

1. Type

Analysis (thesis-driven research and commentary), Trading (tactical trade ideas, flow and positioning) or Mixed (both).

2. Asset Class

Primary coverage: equities, fixed income, commodities, FX, macro, multi-asset or digital assets.

3. Niche

The specific subject-matter edge — e.g. European defense equities, restructuring and liability management, monetary dynamics and repo plumbing.

4. Price

The publisher's publicly listed tiers (monthly, annual, one-time or institutional quote), normalised to a monthly-equivalent for filtering and sorting.

5. Birth Date

When the publication first went live, used as a proxy for track record length and survivorship through multiple market regimes.

BENCHMARK CASE STUDY · #1 EQUITY RESEARCH DESKEuropean Defense Equity Research

Why Quartz Sea Research Holds the #1 Equity Research Rating

"European defense is being repriced in public, and most portfolios are still holding the last war."

Parliaments announce defense budgets, but factories run on cash, physical chemistry and machine tools. Quartz Sea Research prices the industrial bottleneck between the two.

Generalist analysts model defense contractors like consumer-goods companies, missing four structural realities that Quartz Sea Research isolates for its readers:

  • Fixed-price contracts without inflation indexation are severe margin traps.
  • Sole-source energetics and rocket-motor monopolists are bottlenecked for years, not quarters.
  • Nominal order backlogs are full of unfunded framework agreements rather than authorised cash call-offs.
  • Consensus models are disconnected from plant throughput and cash conversion.
1. Industrial Forensics

Cross-references audited filings against physical plant throughput and sole-source lead times.

2. Capital Structure & Rates

Stress-tests balance sheets against ECB rate dynamics, repo liquidity and refinancing cliffs.

3. Sovereign Statutory Ledger

Audits procurement gazettes, budget committee releases and multilateral call-offs line by line.

Zero underwriting conflicts • Zero advisory mandates • 100% auditable
